Brittany’s California Shopping Recap
Hey, y’all! Brittany here. I just got back from two weeks in Southern California where I was born and raised. It was beautiful, fun and also a little bittersweet. My grandfather was diagnosed with a very rare cancer earlier this summer and I carved out the big chunk of time to hunker down and hang out with him as we’re extremely close.
We filled our weeks with golf cart rides around his community, my daughter giving him checkups in her Doc McStuffins costume, sofa chats in his cozy bungalow and a couple meals out when he felt up to it. It was exactly what I needed after a very emotional summer and missing him from afar.
In between chemo and our time together, I made sure to take in some serious California sunshine and fun with my husband and kids. It’s amazing how quickly your life perspective changes when you stare the reality that life is short in the eyes.
So instead of my normal California adventure — loads of flea market sweeps, antique store digging, swap meet sampling — I held my kids tight those 13 days and toted them all over my old stomping grounds of Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and Costa Mesa. As Flea Style gears up for a major retail expansion (news coming SO soon!!!), I decided to spend my days soaking up merchandising hacks, display ideas, layout opportunities and more.
I’m still overwhelmed and in awe over all of the beauty we bumped into. I thought I would share some of my favorite moments with you — and even a couple family cameos.
I hope you enjoy and cannot wait to fill you in on our exciting news as soon as the deal is inked!
The quote walls were seriously dreamy in Lido Village. This is one of my favorites!
How fun are these yarn-bombed chairs at The Camp in Costa Mesa? The kids thought they were cool, too!
Anthropologie wallpaper for the win. Their recently revamped Fashion Island store never disappoints.
Jenni Kayne, your gift wrap game is on point! The feather touch was my favorite.
You can never go wrong with a plant covered airstream, right? I loved this little space so much I even made it my son’s time out corner when he was bad during our visit.
The tallest planter I’ve ever seen. Still a little speechless about this situation. Your comments on Instagram had me in stitches!
Rogers Gardens in Newport Beach is the dreamiest place on earth for plant lovers. Just a little corner at this cool spot. I grew up at this place, especially at Christmas time. Love bringing my kiddos there now.
If this fit in my suitcase, I would have snagged it. Love the detail on this mirror and how 503 Found casually displays it on the floor between a macrame wall hanging and vintage Turkish rug. So effortlessly chic!
I mean… Just the coolest patio I’ve ever seen. Well done, Serena + Lily!
Love this fun spin on the business park mailbox area. This makes collecting bills and junk mail kinda fun, right?
I’ll take one of everything, please. Love how casual the styling was at Rogers Gardens. Feels so organic, yet chic.
One of my favorite stores in the world! You must check out 503 Found if you’re in Newport Beach. It’s a boho-chic wonderland on steroids!
Styling perfection at Anthropologie. Love all the vintage elements they use at this location.
All the wall goals. The color. The texture. I still think about these rainbow stucco walls.
Love all the layering at American Rag in Newport!
We were all a little in awe over this room at Rogers Gardens.
Those walls again. And the mix of color, texture and styles. All of it is just perfection.
Let’s all just take in the cuteness of Landry’s romper scored at The Camp from The Little Penguin (the coolest kids store inside an airstream). Want these in my size!
Barrett may not be digging Landry’s kiss, but I’m totally digging this entire moment! Display goals for days!
A little Laguna Beach moment that had me all heart eyes.
Another cute mobile shop. Can’t get enough of these cute camper shops, California!
