Vendor Stories: Ramble Apparel

It’s hard to watch businesses take off and not want your idea to skyrocket from launch. But solid brands take lots of time and it’s usually the ideas that take a crawl, walk, run approach that last and succeed.

Kathryn and Ryan Hager are shining examples of this model. The couple own Ramble Apparel, a printed clothing label they design and create out of their Wichita Falls retail shop LITTLE h CREATIVE.

Kathryn left her salary gig three-and-a-half years ago to focus on the company full time after working in the couple’s garage for years after hours. A year later they leased a store to hawk their handmade goods (and a year later saved up to buy the building). Currently, the business only sells their stuff from their store and small shows and markets — such as Flea Style this fall — but is working towards gaining wholesale accounts and increasing their online presence to reach customers beyond their small hometown.

Here, Kathryn walks us through a typical day for the budding business and gives us a behind-the-scenes look of how they are pouring the foundation for a solid apparel and retail company from rural Texas.

6:30 a.m. Wake up, start the coffee, and wait for my three young children to wake up.

8:30 a.m. My older two kids are at school and youngest goes to the sitter. I head to the store to get our screen printing studio set up for my husband to start printing. For seven years I printed, designed and prepped alone. In 2017 my husband came on board so now he is responsible for screen printing while I print our designs on inkjet film. At the store I organize the shirts for printing and mix the appropriate inks for each shirt.

10 a.m. This is when our store opens so I open everything up, get the music going and get everything ready for the day.

12:30 p.m. Once the studio is set up I tend to designing and answering emails, phone calls, and am usually on cup of coffee number three by this point.

2:30 p.m.
My assistant comes in at 2 p.m. and we plan events, Instagram posts and marketing strategies.

5 p.m. I am trying to wrap up the day with a clean inbox and I start thinking about dinner plans. My husband picks up the kids so I can head straight home from the store.

6:30 p.m. Dinner is on the table, wine in the glass and we sit every night to have family dinner at the table. Even if every meal isn’t home cooked we eat together at the table every night. It’s my time to soak up this phase of life and be present.

8 p.m. Kids are bathed and off to bed! We say prayers and sing alongs followed by sleep (ideally it only takes them an hour to finally close their eyes).

9 p.m. It’s finally the time of day that it’s all about my husband and me. Honeslty, we usually sit down, high five, veg out on our phones for a bit and then try to watch a Netflix show.

SPEED ROUND!

Favorite vacation destination: Portland, Oregon. Second to that, camping somewhere. We have a little 19-foot camper and we love to pick up and go.

Coffee or tea? Coffee for sure! We just had a roaster move in down from our store so we are spoiled by fair trade fresh coffee grounds.

Favorite TV show: Honestly, I don’t really have one. I would have to say anything Marvel or comic book related only because my husband has brainwashed me and that’s all we watch.

Current song on repeat: Anything Lumineers.

Biggest indulgence: Wine. To be specific, Naked Wines.

Favorite style icon: Hard one… Julia Roberts.

Ramble Apparel and their store Little H Creative is located at 822 Indiana Ave., A in Wichita Falls, Texas. Meet this amazing couple at our Dallas fall show October 21st from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Buy your ticket now!
