Hey everyone, Brittany here! Although nothing has happened at the future store and studio space over the past week construction-wise, we made a little magic inside on Wednesday for our first 2018 e-commerce photo shoot!
Instead of having the shoot in our current office space, we decided to pack up our latest flea market and vendor finds for a location shoot in our future HQ. We also packed our warmest clothes and a broom and dustpan to brave the dirty construction zone that currently has no electricity or heat!
The team hadn’t seen the space since demolition so we had to tour every inch when we first arrived. We all went a little gaga as I showed them the yummy exposed wood ceilings, 12-foot doors and pink marble slabs I had only gushed about up that point. After a quick tour (and Instagram live tour for y’all!), we prepped our clothes and decor for a nippy two-hour shoot.
We pulled fun elements from the space — old shiplap wood, a distressed metal chair, sunny yellow step stool — and used them as mini backdrops for our latest arrivals that include old clay bowls I collected in Argentina, a vintage Murano glass ashtray and vintage decanters topped with seashells and coral from my California hometown.
Once the littles were shot, we took turns slipping into our fashion and accessory finds behind a giant credenza (make. it. work!). We chose an exposed white brick wall as our backdrop and quickly posed gritting our teeth in the 50-degree air. From silky floral kimonos and caftans to a bold embroidered dress, we were definitely channeling the beach while posing in the frigid temps. Luckily I recently collected some coats, too! Expect these pieces to hit shopfleastyle.com over the next couple weeks.
At the end of the shoot, we pulled out the tripod and took a team shot to capture this special moment in the Flea Style story. Our first photo shoot, y’all!!! We can’t wait to keep shooting in this special place — with the best natural lighting! — and grow our e-commerce site as Flea Style’s retail platform grows. A big goal for us this year is to really rev up our selection of goods online and support more and more vendors.
So, the latest with the space: We currently have our plans out to bid with some contractors and are waiting for numbers to roll in. It’s a slow process and we’re waiting as patiently as possible. We are also working out some minor structural engineering stuff and doing all the things to get our “clean letter” from the city that gives us the green light to channel our inner Chip and Jo and go crazy with hammers and paint samples inside the space. We. Are. So. Ready!!!
We recently started #fsshoptalk for you to keep up with our store/studio space and progress on social media. Search the hashtag to see info just on our retail journey. And check back here on the blog each week for my latest updates.
Keep shopping small, y’all!
