I can’t believe opening weekend is here. I am filled with a million emotions — exhausted, anxious, relieved, ready, so-not-ready — as we’re hours away from officially opening our doors.
Today we put the final touches on everything. From sweeping every inch of the floor and outfitting our bathrooms with toiletries to making floral arrangements and tying our grand opening bow across our front entry, we will be buzzing around buttoning everything up for the big day.
We officially open for business tomorrow at 10 a.m. to the public. But tonight we have a soft opening for about 150 of our friends and family to toast our labor of love and test our POS system, sales tactics and cash wrap skills on people that will give us honest feedback (and a break). We’ve invited immediate fam, our besties, top online customers and the crew that helped us pull off this dream from our realtor and architect to our lawyer, builder and banker. We even invited the former owners of our building to show them what we’ve done with the space — and how we’ve used their fixtures and furniture from their former print shop business (they’re gonna freak)!
If I’m totally honest, I’m not 100-percent ready for opening and pleased with the condition of the space. There are so many things that still need completed from our back patio area to parking lot. But you know what? It’s all going to be ok. And I know shoppers won’t even notice. But I’m such a perfectionist when it comes to interiors that it’s driving me crazy. I just had to finally give up and say it is what it is and we’ll tackle it as soon as we can — when we can.
On a positive note, the store is more than I ever could have dreamed of. It’s dripping — quite literally at times — with stunning product and heartfelt signage about every single vendor inside (that’s 54 local small businesses, y’all). I’m so proud of my team and the way we really honor our mission of handmade, vintage and one-of-a-kind and the 54 makers and shakers inside.
We have so many new custom collections to share with you too from our two new candle scents to “Good Things Happen Here” tees, Flea Style flannels and handmade cactus pillows.
Yesterday we trained our new sales staff on how to use our POS system, greet customers, handle issues, etc. As we were testing check outs, I was so excited to see them actually buying product they had been coveting over the past couple weeks instead of doing mock trials. I had planned to buy things each transaction to let them learn (I’ve had like 108 things I’ve been wanting to snag) but they did too and it was so much fun to see what they gravitated towards and that they love the product as much as we do!
Besides being our soft grand opening day, today is also huge at Flea Style for several more reasons! Season 3 of our podcast Fridays with Flea Style airs today around lunch with my girl crush India Hicks. I’ve wanted to interview her for years and still can’t believe I had the opportunity earlier this week. We also launched our Dallas fall show applications (vendors click here)! Lastly, our online shop is finally back up and running! If you can’t make our grand opening score a slice of the goodness with our latest arrivals and capsule vintage pieces.
Once we can catch our breath we will really rev up our e-commerce game. And we’re pumped! We finally have the space to stock product, proper shipping supplies and really make our online store the platform we know it can be.
We are so grateful for all of you and for each of you being a reason we are working so hard to grow. We hope to see you at our grand opening and can’t wait to welcome you with a big hug and tour of the new space!
Our grand opening is this weekend! Come see us from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday! We’re open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. too!
