Three South Texas Creators You Need to Know!

Three South Texas Creators You Need to Know!

Texas never ceases to amaze us with its bevy of bomb crafters, collectors and makers. Our store carries beautiful products from all corners of the state, including down south spanning even to our tiny — and totally adorable! — coastal cities.

Here’s a little 411 on three vendors that collect or craft very different things — clothing, home decor and jewelry — but all hail from the bayou or beach region.

VIDA ANTIGUA VINTAGE

The lowdown: Hi, I’m Luz Perez and the owner of Vida Antiqua Vintage based in Houston!

Currently at Flea Style: Cheeky sunglasses, global maxi dresses, colorful evening wear

Favorite thing about being a small business owner? I love that I’ve been able create a brand that has helped people find their own style. I enjoy establishing relationships with my customers and having the opportunity to know them on a personal level where I can introduce and suggest style choices that fit their personalities.

Hopes for your biz? I hope to continue doing pop ups and to start traveling for events outside of Texas.

Beach or mountains? Mountains

Currently listening to: Frank Ocean

Favorite quote: “Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself” by Coco Chanel.

SHELL & PINE

The lowdown: Hi, I’m Katy Jones-Gulsby! Shell & Pine curates vintage, antique and artisan goods to fit modern lives, tastes and aesthetics. Based in Rockport on the Texas coast, we’re inspired by the meeting of South and West in our vibrant part of the country.

Currently at Flea Style: Hand-embroidered vintage Levi cutoffs, aged brass candlesticks, mid-century modern wood chairs, old baskets, costume jewelry

What’s your favorite thing about owning your biz? The hunt! Curating collections of beautiful pieces is also a thrill. Sharing my love of old things with new people will always be wonderful.

Hopes for your business? We lost our brick and mortar space to Hurricane Harvey in 2017. So the ultimate goal is to be able to re-open as an atelier again.

Something only your bestie knows about you? I still know all the words to Salt-N-Pepa’s ‘Shoop.’

Dream dinner guest: Georgia O’Keeffe – what an incredible soul and force of nature to have a conversation with.

Favorite quote: “I can, with one eye squinted, take it all as a blessing,” by Flannery O’Connor.

Dream vacation destination: Any tiny village in Provence.

THE KATZ MEOW CREATIONS

The lowdown: I am a Houston creative artist who specializes and designs wearable art. In 2010, after numerous requests from friends and family to buy my items, I took the leap and launched an own online jewelry store that sells my handmade pieces. My work ranges from simple, eclectic bohemian to one-of-a-kind statement pieces.

Currently at Flea Style: Handmade beaded bracelets with aged brass accents, light weight suede and agate chokers, long geode necklaces

Beach or mountains? Beach!

Favorite quote: The best advice I’ve ever received was to never be scared to ask, because you know know what doors will open for you if you do. So I always say “a closed mouth does not get fed.”
