Britt’s Picks: Sale, Perks Program + 50th Podcast

Happy Labor Day weekend, everyone! This week has been another whirlwind with Market at The Star around the corner, Mimosa Walk today and our big sale. It’s also been nuts because we’ve been hiring new employees, training them and we’re about to launch a big rewards program online and in store. Lots going on!

LABOR DAY SALE

This week we hosted our first store-wide sale in store. It was a big learning process but has been a huge success! We spent days prepping signage, graphics and spreading the word about the big event. We also had a lot of work on the back end of our system preparing prices and tags.

Grace handmade the signage throughout the store and DeAnna and Jess had to test each vendor in our system (our Shopify platform is highly specialized since each vendor basically operates as an individual store in the backend). We soft-launched the sale Thursday night at our live podcast to iron out any kinks.

I’ve worked the floor each day to help the sales team and have loved seeing our shoppers and their excitement for our steals and deals. The past two days have been huge for the vendors and we assume today will be insane with the Deep Ellum Mimosa Walk happening.

We have five cases of champagne ready to welcome hoards of hip shoppers. Excited for today (and reallllly excited for our store to be closed and have a much-needed day off mañana!)

NEW WORKSHOPS

Jess and I spent a lot of time this week preparing new workshops for the studio. Customers have really enjoying our classes and we were starting to get low for fall. Seriously, where does the time go?!

We reached out to our vendors to see who might want to host a cool class this season. From unique candle courses to dried floral arranging and DIY herb smudge stick making, we secured some really special creative classes for y’all! See some of them here!

50TH PODCAST TAPING

On Thursday we taped our 50th — yes 50th! — podcast! We taped it live in our studio in front of a sold out audience with our friends Alli Koch, Lauren Williams and Tori Gonzales.

All three women were guests on season one and we thought it would be fun to catch up with them for the special episode. Maker’s Mark sponsored the podcast and served everyone a delicious cocktail and custom T-shirt.

Afterwards I took the guests to dinner to thank them for joining us and catch up further. It’s moments like these that I’m so thankful for this job and the connections it has created. I am constantly inspired by the creatives I’m surrounded by.

PLANNING NEW SOCIAL MEDIA SERIES

Our small biz boot camp workshop series was such a hit, that we are also arranging more education focused courses in our studio. In a couple weeks we’ll roll out a social media and public relations four-class series taught by people we really admire and have personally worked with.

From how to build a press kit and write a press release to paid social media tips, this series will cover it all. Stay tuned for this October and November series! I will be sitting front row and center for all of these important classes!

OUR NEW PERKS PROGRAM

One of the biggest things we worked on this week was our new rewards Perks Program! Starting this month when you shop with us, you can earn rewards with each purchase.

Fun highlights include free moolah, gifts, wine while you shop and 20-percent off private parties in our event space. This has been a huge undertaking from developing our rewards, branding and signage to testing the whole system and making sure each element works including all of the confirmation emails.

File this whole project under “things I didn’t think about when we launched but realized quickly we need.” The team has been so awesome creating this whole program by learning on the fly step by step. I’m constantly impressed by their awesomeness and willingness to roll up their sleeves and figure stuff out!

BUILDING NEXT DOOR PROGRESS

This week we got really serious about our building next store submitting a LOI (letter of intent) to a local restaurant concept to make it their new home.

We’re still far from it being a done deal, but we’re very excited about the potential of having this fresh food concept as our neighbor in our second building. If this deal doesn’t pan out, we will quickly work on something else as we’re ready to get this building up and running and to bring some yummy bites next door for our staff, shoppers and event space.

If all works out with this concept, expect delicious sips and food at Flea Style by early 2019! Y’all will LOVE this eatery!

Ok, off to spend some quality time with my kiddos this morning before heading to the store for Mimosa Walk. Come see us from noon until 5 p.m. for some free bubbly! Our sale ends today so don’t miss our steals and deals plus 25-percent off the store!

Hope to see y’all soon!
