Meet the Makers: 3 Local Gems

Handcrafted jewelry and handbags are the keys to our heart (and tacos, but we digress). That’s why we’re swooning over these three designers that make unique, eye-popping pieces by hand.

From global-inspired statement makers to simple beaded bracelets, these small local businesses offer a little something for every style.

The lowdown: Hi, I’m Annah Chakola! Fabric is in my blood; my family has been in the Indian textile business for over a century and a half! After years of witnessing beautiful fabrics’ ends and threads going to waste, I decided to turn one man’s trash into another woman’s treasure. Boho Gypsy is a line of handcrafted jewelry, bags and accessories handcrafted by a registered Global Fair Trade women’s collective in Northern India from recycled fabrics.

What’s your favorite thing about being a small business owner? Each day is different and you get to meet people from all walks of life.

Hopes for your business? I hope to be in more large retailers around the country spreading the love of handmade that keeps small traditional craft alive.

The lowdown: Hi, I’m Corniche Jones! My business all started with friendship bracelets. As a kid, I would make friendship bracelets and beaded jewelry. In college, my love for creating was reignited. My business name is actually inspired by my university. My pieces have a modern design and layer well together. They are simple yet attention grabbing.

What’s your favorite thing about being a small business owner? My favorite thing has been meeting amazing, like-minded people.

Beach or mountains? Beach! There’s nothing better than watching the sun rise on the shoreline.
