A huge project we kicked off this summer was building a Flea Style wholesale program. We want to collaborate with our makers to produce products to sell across the country for those that enjoy our brand but don’t live in our backyard.
We’ve spent countless hours brainstorming product ideas, vendor collabs and building financial models to figure out what would work for our mission, skill set, style and an approachable price point. The first thing we landed on? Bandanas! They’re a Texas style classic, easy to wear (even pups can rock them) and an accessory staple for us so it felt very on-brand.
Each month, we collect dozens and dozens of vintage bandanas from flea markets. So we started with our stash and bleached, painted and dyed them with various materials. Our idea was so see what process we liked, but we ended up liking them all!
On some colors, bleaching was the coolest technique. On other colors, dying them turned out more magical. So we realized we needed to use various processes in the end to create the scope of styles we wanted in the collection.
A bit about our process: After washing these old bandanas over and over and then bleaching, painting or dying them by hand in our Deep Ellum HQ, we wash them again and iron every single one of them. From there, they get a cute branded band telling customers a bit about them.
When we were considering the labels, we came up with so many ideas to name the collection: Custom Dyed Bandanas. Hand-Dyed Bandanas. One-of-a-kind Bandanas… Everything kind of worked, but didn’t quite hit the mark for every single style we were creating.
That’s when we came up with the term “Reimagined Bandanas.” Ah ha! It was perfect. And couldn’t be more true for each and every one!
Each bandana retails for $20. They’re available in our store (you can always DM us on Instagram for some, too) and will soon be online at shopfleastyle.com.
By January, we plan to have them in our wholesale program, too. The hope is that small boutiques across the country will start slinging the Flea Style lifestyle and support our vendors as we fold them into projects from clothing to paper goods and home decor.
We have dozens of styles now available at our Deep Ellum store. Come check out our bandana bar to see them up close and personal and add an extra touch with our wide range of slides.
Shop our store for unique handmade and vintage finds daily! We’re located at 3009 Commerce Street in Deep Ellum and open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
