Our shoppers are our muses, especially Michael's buyer and weekly Flea Style fixture Amanda Ritchey. Each time the 34-year old graces our floors, her prim-meets-bohemian style and pizazz for color, sequins, blazers and big bows always sends us all swooning.
We recently toured Amanda's Deep Ellum closet to see her eclectic wardrobe up close and personal. See her fun and festive mix -- and join her next Friday and Saturday at our Dallas spring show to score amazing handmade and vintage clothing and accessories from 150-plus amazing vendors!
How did you discover Flea Style? I think the first time I heard about Flea Style was when you did a show at Fair Park about two years ago. Unfortunately, I missed the show, but ended up reading about Flea Style and loved what it stood for. A few months later, I was driving home from work down Commerce Street and saw the store front. I remember coming home and immediately following Flea Style on Instagram to follow the store progress and find out the opening date. I was so excited that something so unique was within walking distance! I attended the grand opening and left with two bags worth of treasures!
How often do you pop in? At least every other week! Sometimes more!
Why do you love shopping with us? Oh my gosh, where do I begin?! I know that whenever I make a purchase from Flea Style, it’s going to be in my closet or home forever. The things in the store are like nothing you can find anywhere else. They are truly one-of-a-kind treasures. In addition to the great items, Flea Style has the most amazing group of women working in the store. Each time I walk in, I feel so welcomed by each and every person!
Favorite item from us ever and why? Ohhh, this is a tough one! Can I say every item? If I had to choose just one, I would choose the pink fringe mohair jacket that came from vendor Shell & Pine. I will have this jacket FOREVER! It’s a unique piece that is so well made. I can layer it with so many pieces that I already have in my closet.
How many things would you say you’ve collected from us? Too many to count! Honestly!
Why do you love vintage? I can definitely attribute my love of vintage to several members in my family. My paternal grandmother loved going to flea markets and she had the most impeccable style. My grandmother passed away when I was only five years old, but I’ve been given several things that she collected throughout the years. When I was in high school, I started going to local Ohio flea markets with my mom and our favorite thing to do was to dig through boxes of estate jewelry. When my husband and I purchased our first home, we would go to the same flea market and find furniture and home décor for our home. There’s something about finding a treasure that makes vintage so special.
How would you describe your style? Definitely girly, which might be the standard answer for most, but it’s always been my style! Even though I’m in my thirties, I still rock a big bow in my hair every now and then! And I do love a good statement jacket!
Craziest thing you’ve ever bought from us? It was probably one of the first things I’ve ever purchased from you! It’s a black and gold sequin jacket with stars and stripes all over it!
Why does shopping local/small matter to you? Whenever I shop a local business, I know I’m supporting someone’s dream and hard work. The items in these stores are unique and special and you won’t find anything like them elsewhere.
Do you have any tips for people that want to layer vintage fashion into their life? Invest in your basics and find vintage pieces that can add that extra bit of pizazz to any everyday outfit!
Favorite era to buy? The 1960s.
Do you have a style icon? Audrey Hepburn, hands down. Her style was classic and has stood the test of time.
Dream vintage piece you’d like to find/purchase one day? A Chanel tweed suit!
If money was no object, what fashion item would you snag? A black Chanel Classic Flap bag with gold hardware. The dream…
What would you save if your closet was on fire? My grandmother’s white mink. My mom and dad passed it down to me a few years ago and I’ve treasured it ever since. It has a silver satin lining with her initials embroidered in it. It’s irreplaceable.
Any tips for cleaning/preserving vintage? If I know I can care for something at home, I always wash them on delicate. Otherwise, I will send items to the dry cleaners. I try to keep the super delicate items in garment bags.
