For our final episode of season six of our podcast, we sat down with design and TV star Thom Felicia.
From his early days as a design intern to starting his own business and building a booming lifestyle brand, the New York native walks us through his wild journey and big break — in a broken elevator of all places. “Take your business very seriously, but don’t take yourself too seriously,” says the 50-year old CEO. Learn more from this insightful entrepreneur during this equally educational and hilarious (wait until you learn how he nabbed the Queer Eye role!) sit down with our founder.
If you weren’t a designer, what would you be doing?
I'd be a ski instructor by day and Kettle One Vodka spokesperson by night.
You’re inspiring people everyday. Who inspires you?
Design is, at the end of the day, for people. Therefore, I get most of my inspiration from connecting with those around me. Travel is wonderful, but the exciting and energizing part of it for me is the authentic human connection that I have with people from all over the world, all walks of life, different lifestyles, points of view and personalities. In turn, that all informs and inspires my design (and I like to think make me a more holistic designer and creative person).
If anyone could play you in a movie, who would you choose?
Bradley Cooper, however the movie would have to include a major plastic surgery component to make it believable. Brad Pitt would be the understudy, although that might be a little too far-fetched.
Who made the biggest impact on you in your career?
The diversity of my clients and mediums I’ve been able to work in the world of design; from television to product design as well as commercial and residential clients all over the world. It’s this diversity of opportunities that has and continues to inform and shape my career.
Tell us something people might be surprised to know about you!
Every once in a while, I actually feel tired for a random few moments.
