Exactly one year ago, we were putting the final touches on our Frisco store and restaurant for a grand opening celebration the first week of November. A lot has happened in those 11 months.
The highest of highs: Opening our doors, celebrating a second location, launching e-commerce, record-breaking months, hosting a surprise marriage proposal in our studio (seriously, SWOON). We’ve also experienced the lowest of lows: Covid-19, shutting our doors for several weeks, cancelling events, vandalism left and right (tagging our doors, stealing our van’s backup cameras, snatching our patio furniture) and witnessing horrible looting in our Deep Ellum neighborhood.
All that said, we’ve kept hard at work and our spirits (mostly) high, to push through for our small business and all those we support through our retail stores, restaurant and pop ups. Honestly, it’s been hard. It’s been completely exhausting most days. But through all the darkness there has been so much light that illuminated some unexpected silver linings and opportunities.
The biggest one? Building our dream team. Over the past 11 months — and past three especially — we have cultivated a dream team of men and women that believe in our brands, mission and future from the bottom of their boots. We’ve empowered and promoted our core team while adding lots of fresh faces to fill new roles in the company and together everyone has made our brand stronger than ever.
It’s because of this teamwork and solid foundation, we have been positioned to expand and take more on. So when the chance to open a third brick-and-mortar that we knew our team and customers would love came our way, we didn’t hesitate. The answer was, heck yes!
Yep, we’re opening a third store y’all! It’s a concept store called Game Day Style to showcase our handmade, vintage and one-of-a-kind sports gear as well as unique market finds for fans of all teams. It’s located at The Star in Frisco across from the Dallas Cowboys pro shop and playing field at the district.
Our Frisco store and restaurant have really thrived since opening, even during this pandemic, so the location coupled with the success of our unique sports line made it a total home run. To be honest, I’ve always wanted a Game Day Style store, I just always imagined it more of a studio inside our retail spaces.
But as we’ve grown and learned more and more about our customer, it was clear we didn’t have the space inside our Flea Style stores to showcase sports gear the way we’d want to if we really grew the brand. So when the perfect space presented itself earlier this fall at The Star, I jumped on the chance to realize this dream for Game Day Style, our team and fans near and far.
The expansion has been fast and furious! In just a couple weeks time, we’ve secured a lease, fixtures, more product and have even been working on custom collaborations with our makers to further our Flea Style mission and offer unique goods in the sports world. I’m giddy about the cool high school, collegiate and professional team mix we’re curating. It’s unlike anything else in the world and will be SO COOL.
I will spill the tea more and more here over the next couple weeks as we start and complete a very quick construction job, install our fixtures, build products, hire new talent and open our doors. I’ve been working basically 24/7 on this store to hit our grand opening date of Friday November 6th, which will co-incide with Flea Style and Heirloom Haul’s one-year anniversary celebration November 6-8 at The Star.
Funny enough, all of it falls on my birthday, November 8th, too so you know we’re going to make it a huge party weekend. After everything our small business, team, makers and community has been through this year, we’re celebrating big time! From free bubbly and giveaways to gifts with purchase and cake, it’s all happening y’all.
I hope you’ll follow this fast ride to our next chapter and join us for the celebration if you’re local. I promise to fold you into all the decor details, fumbles (you know there will be some challenges!), and other fun details as they unfold. Keep checking back here for updates — and let the games begin!
