Store Openings to Speaking Engagements

Houston opening weekend marked a milestone I still can’t quite believe—we celebrated the opening of our ninth store. It felt surreal to be there, surrounded by our team and customers, reflecting on how far this journey has come since The Houston Flea days a decade ago.

Like many big moments in life, though, it didn’t unfold exactly as planned. Stormy weather canceled flights and threatened to derail my grand opening appearance.  The kids and I pivoted and hit the road instead. What could have been a stressful scramble turned into a memorable adventure—hours in the car, plenty of snacks, and that shared determination to make it there no matter what.

And I’m so glad we did.

Houston welcomed us with warmth, despite the Texas weather, and opening weekend turned into something really special. One of the most meaningful moments for me was when an old friend from middle school—someone I hadn’t seen in almost three decades—visited the store. She now lives in Houston, and we reconnected right there in the middle of all the excitement. I even had the chance to make a hat for her.

This week brought another meaningful opportunity when I spoke at the Dallas Mavericks Women’s Symposium. I joined a panel called “It Takes a Village,” and that title couldn’t have been more fitting. During the conversation, I talked about the people who have supported me along the way—family, friends, mentors, team members, and partners who believed in the vision and helped shape it into what it is today. Growing something authentically requires community. It requires people who challenge you, encourage you, and sometimes simply show up when you need them most.

Behind the scenes, there’s even more happening this week. Our team has been hard at work preparing to reopen our downtown Nashville store after the fire and flood damage we experienced last Christmas. It’s been a long road getting everything restored, rebuilt, and ready again. Seeing the progress now feels incredibly hopeful. We’re aiming to welcome our Nashville team and customers back by this weekend, and I can’t wait to see that space full of life again.

At the same time, we’re putting the finishing touches on book tour planning. It’s amazing to watch it all come together after months of preparation. One thing I’m especially excited about for the tour is inviting friends to join me for fun Q&A conversations at several stops. Those moments of connection—hearing stories, sharing experiences, laughing together—are what make events like this truly special. I can’t wait to share more details soon and hopefully see many of y’all there.

When I step back and look at everything happening right now—the new store in Houston, speaking opportunities, reopening Nashville, spring collections, and the upcoming book tour—I feel incredibly grateful. It’s busy, yes. Sometimes a little chaotic. But it’s also a season filled with growth, community, and meaningful moments.

And for all of it, I’m deeply thankful.
